Wedding Photography · Mornington Peninsula

The Peninsula shoots differently
to anywhere else I work.

Coastal cliffs, Red Hill wineries, bay beaches and rolling farmland, all within an hour of the city. The Mornington Peninsula gives you a completely different set of photographs to anything you’d get inland, and I love that about it.

Melbourne & Mornington
Since 2014

The Peninsula isn’t one thing.
It’s everything at once.

The Mornington Peninsula stretches from Frankston all the way down to Portsea and across to Flinders, and the variety of what you can do with it photographically is genuinely surprising. Clifftop ceremony with the bay behind you. Winery reception in Red Hill with vineyard rows at golden hour. Beach portraits at sunset on a sheltered bay. A heritage homestead tucked into farmland with mountains in the distance.

What ties it together is the quality of the coastal light. The Peninsula is surrounded on three sides by water, and that moisture in the air does something particular to the light, especially in the late afternoon. It softens. It glows. The golden-hour photographs you get down here are different to anything you’d capture an hour inland, and couples who know their photography know it.

I’ve photographed weddings across the Peninsula, from Stumpy Gully in the Red Hill wine country to the Ranelagh Club on the beachfront at Mount Martha, to All Smiles on NYE in Sorrento. Every corner of it is worth shooting, and I haven’t found one I didn’t enjoy.

“The sunset portraits on the beach were beyond anything we imagined. That light, at that time of day, on the Peninsula, is something else entirely.”

HI THERE I’M MATT

Your wedding day,
photographed like it actually felt.

I’m Matt. I’ve been photographing weddings since 2014 across Melbourne, the Yarra Valley, and the Mornington Peninsula. The Peninsula is one of my favourite places to shoot, largely because of what the coastal environment does to the light, especially in the last hour before sunset.

The variety of venues down here also keeps things interesting. A clifftop ceremony is a completely different shoot to a winery in Red Hill or a beach reception in Mount Martha. I adapt to the location and find what makes each one worth photographing on its own terms.

My style is mostly documentary. I stay out of the way and let the day happen naturally. During the portrait session I find the best light the location has to offer and give you some gentle direction, and then step back and let you be yourselves. That’s when everything tends to happen.

Venues I know well.

SORRENTO

All Smiles Sorrento

Absolute beachfront on the Sorrento ocean side with 180-degree views. Cocktail-style reception, ceremony on the sand, and that particular coastal light the Peninsula does so well at golden hour.

DROMANA

Dromana Estate

A rustic winery with gently rolling hills, vineyard rows, and a relaxed atmosphere that’s hard to manufacture. The kind of place where the day feels unhurried and the portraits look effortless.

RED HILL

Lindenderry Estate

A boutique luxury hotel and vineyard estate high in the Red Hill hills. Stone buildings, lake views, manicured gardens, and the kind of golden-hour light you drive an hour to the peninsula for.

SHOREHAM

Pier 10

A boutique winery in Shoreham with onsite ceremony, drinks and reception spaces, and beautiful natural backdrops across the property. Intimate and personal, with the owner Stuart involved in making your day work.

PORTSEA

Portsea Hotel

Panoramic views over Port Phillip Bay and Bass Strait from the tip of the Peninsula. Lawn ceremony overlooking the beach, multiple reception spaces, and accommodation onsite for a full weekend celebration.

“Matt captured our day with such a calm and effortless presence. The photos are stunning, full of genuine emotion, and perfectly reflect everything we loved about our wedding.”
