PINNING WEDDING FLOWERS
THOSE PESKY BOUTONNIERES
The one question I get asked at almost every wedding I attend is “How do I put these flowers on my jacket?” and with good reason, as it seems to be a complicated task, but it can be broken down into 3 simple steps
Boutonnieres are a pretty great way to add a splash of colour to your suit and a great way to tie in the colour theme from your wedding. For the most part, they are worn by the Groom, his Groomsmen, Mother and Fathers of the Bride/Groom and anyone else who is special to you. Let’s begin by having a look at the below video showing just how to pin the wedding flowers.
LET’S GO OVER THOSE 3 SIMPLE STEPS
1. Place The Boutonniere On The Left Lapel
The boutonniere should be placed on top of the lapel and on the left side of the suit lower than the tie but higher than the pocket square. If you’re pinning the boutonniere on some else then placed it to the right of the person’s tie. There’s no exact science to it, but you’ll know when it’s in the right spot.
2. Fold The Lapel Over the Boutonniere (JUST LIKE A TACO, THAT’S RIGHT….. A TACO)
When your happy with where you have placed the boutonniere, carefully fold the lapel over the flower and form the shape of a taco…… yes a taco, don’t worry it will all make sense when you do it. You should now be looking at the back of the lapel.
3. Slide The Needle Downward Into The Back Of the Lapel
Slide the needle downward along the back of the flower and make sure it runs through the lapel, then the flower, then the lapel again. Be sure to stick the needle through the thickest part of the boutonnieres flower stem. The needled is placed downward to hold the flower in place for the whole wedding day.
Fold the lapel back and have a look and see if it’s positioned correctly and if it’s in the right spot. If your uncertain if it will stay in place you two needles and form an “X” at the back of the lapel for more stability.
