FAQ’S

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY BOOKINGS

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR SERVICES?

I’m all about simple and natural wedding photography and my wedding packages start from $1500. Depending on your event (engagement, family portraits, birthday party), prices are negotiable. Please see our Services & Prices page for more information.

CAN WE CUSTOMISE YOUR PACKAGES TO SUIT OUR WEDDING NEEDS?

I’m more than happy to chat with you over the phone or meet with you to discuss changes to my wedding packages. Please keep in mind that wedding photography and especially the post-wedding work takes time and must still be financially viable. That being said, I’m more than happy to negotiate to see if I can meet your specific needs.

HOW DO WE GO ABOUT BOOKING YOU IN?

First things first, let’s have a chat about your big day. I like to meet up with couples before booking so everyone is on the same page about wedding photography. Once you’re set on having me there on your big day I just require a  $100 non-refundable deposit via cash or direct deposit and I’m officially yours for the day!

CAN YOU TEMPORARILY HOLD OUR WEDDING DATE WHILST WE DECIDE?

I will normally hold a date for a few days if needed and for special circumstances, but generally speaking, to hold a wedding date I require a $100 deposit.

ABOUT US

WHAT CAMERA GEAR DO YOU USE?

I use Canon Camera Gear and L-Series Canon lenses. On the day I’ll have several cameras and several lenses depending on what is needed. If you love cameras like I do I would love to have a chat.

WHAT DO YOU WEAR TO A WEDDING?

This really depends on the setting. For most weddings, I wear smart casual clothes. Normally chino pants and a smart shirt.

WHERE DO YOU STAND REGARDING SAME-SEX WEDDINGS?

I am, 100%, all for them! I am a firm believer in marriage equality and are absolutely thrilled that the law has finally changed.

Before The Wedding Day

CAN WE GIVE YOU EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC PHOTOS WE WANT TAKEN?

If there is a specific location, position or group of people you want to be photographed, please let me know this before the day. However, we would prefer to be able to photograph in our own style, as we find this gives the most natural images and also allows us to use the location freely, rather than being locked into a certain set of photos and poses. If you need some inspiration for your photos drop by our Pinterest page using the link below.

CAN WE MEET YOU IN PERSON BEFORE THE DAY?

Absolutely! We definitely prefer to meet face-to-face before the day. This gives us a chance to get to know each other better and importantly, makes sure that we are the right fit for you as we’ll be spending a lot of time together on your wedding day. We currently live in the Yarra Valley and are happy to meet in the area, or come to your local area if preferred.

OUR EVENT LOCATION IS OUTSIDE OF METROPOLITAN MELBOURNE, ARE YOU WILLING TO TRAVEL?

Yes! We love to travel and are happy to negotiate a price with you to cover our costs if need be. Melbourne and surrounding suburbs are included in our packages. Interstate trips are not available at this stage.

HOW LONG IS THE COVERAGE FOR A WEDDING?

That really depends on how long you would like us there on your big day. We don’t believe in strict start and finish times. The only time restraints are based on what package you choose and we like to keep it simple with the only difference being whether we stay for the reception or not. We mainly just do our best to fit into your day.

WHAT ABOUT OTHER EVENTS?

We are able to negotiate times depending on your event. For engagement shoots, family portraits, pregnancy and newborn sessions, we would recommend a minimum of two hours. For birthday parties, the time will vary depending on what aspects you want covered.

On The WEDDING Day

HOW LONG DO YOU USUALLY SPEND AT EACH GETTING READY LOCATION?

Typically we would spend one hour at the brides getting ready location and 45 minutes with the groom. Depending on your getting ready locations and their proximity to your ceremony venue, we will decide whether we see the bride or groom first.
When meeting up with the bride, we ask that your hair and make-up is done, but that you and your bridesmaids are not yet in your dresses and that the bride is not wearing her engagement ring or important jewellery. This gives us a chance to take some shots of the dresses and the jewellery on their own, before you get dressed privately. We will then follow with some shots of the bride on her own, with her bridesmaids and flower girl and her family.
When meeting up with the groom, ideally you and the groomsmen will be showered and dressed in your suit pants and shirts. We will then get shots of you doing your ties, cufflinks, shoes etc and then move on to solo groom photos, group shots and family shots.
We like to arrive at the ceremony location 15-20 minutes before the start time so we can suss out the best locations for us to stand and move around to capture the best moments of the ceremony

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE ARE RUNNING LATE PRE-CEREMONY?

Don’t worry it’s normal 🙂
I’ll try my best to work with delays in time and still spend the maximum amount of time with both the bride and groom. We can always swap around who we visit first depending on who is running late and may ask that you are completely ready (clothes, jewellery, shoes etc…) so we can get straight into group and family photos when I arrive.

WHO WILL BE THE PERSON TAKING OUR PHOTOS?

Hi, I’m Matt and I will be your photographer. You can find out more info about me here

Wedding Portrait Session

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS ON OUR WEDDING DAY?

EMBRACE IT 🙂
No need to worry! If you don’t mind getting the umbrella out we will still be able to capture some stunning photos. I can also accommodate changes in location settings for photos of family and groups if not everyone is happy about exposing themselves to Melbourne’s unpredictable weather!

HOW LONG DO WE NEED FOR THE POST-CEREMONY PHOTOS?

An hour to an hour-and-a-half is ideal for photos between the ceremony and reception. It is important to keep in mind that your guests will be waiting during this time and you don’t want them to wait for too long. If you plan to take your post-ceremony photos quite a distance from where your reception will be held you will want to factor this into the start time of your reception to ensure you do not run late.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME OF DAY FOR THE LOCATION PHOTOS?

Late afternoon, after 3.30pm, up until sunset, is the best time for photos. The sun is not too high in the sky or too bright which reduces glare and squinting of people in photos. You might wish to check sunset times prior to organising the time of your ceremony and reception.

The Wedding Reception

HOW MUCH OF THE RECEPTION WILL YOU BE AVAILABLE TO CAPTURE?

I generally stay for most of the night or up until the last item on the running sheet. I’ll always let you know when I’m thinking of leaving so that we don’t miss anything and I’ll always make sure we are all on the same page.

WILL YOU TAKE PHOTOS OF OUR GUESTS DURING THE RECEPTION?

Absolutely yes!

IF YOU STAY FOR THE RECEPTION, DO WE NEED TO CATER FOR YOU?

Depending on the timing of your major events during the reception I can either head off for 45 minutes to get a meal, or I may request that you provide a meal for me. Most venues will do so at a reduced rate – this can be discussed at the pre-wedding meeting.

After The Wedding

WILL YOU SUPPLY EVERY SINGLE PHOTO YOU TAKE?

The short answer is No… A typical $1500 package wedding will see us take around 2,000 photos and a $2000 package wedding around 3,000. A large number of these photos are test shots that we use to focus the camera and we also like to ensure that I take more than one shot of each moment or pose in case people are blinking, looking away from the camera etc. After the wedding I take great pleasure in sorting through the images and selecting the best ones, which will then be edited for you.

HOW MANY PHOTOS WILL WE RECEIVE?

On average, a $1500 wedding will result in 300-500 photos and a $2000 in 500-700 photos. This will vary slightly depending on each unique day and the amount of time actually covered, as well as the types of photos and select package you may request.

HOW LONG WILL IT BE BEFORE WE SEE ANY OF OUR PHOTOS?

We aim to put a ‘sneak peak’ photo on our Facebook page the day after your wedding, followed by another 3-5 images over the next few weeks. The rest of the edited photos will be supplied, not watermarked, in high resolution around 3-4 weeks after your wedding date.

WHAT DO YOU DO TO THE PHOTOS WHEN YOU EDIT THEM?

Our editing process is fairly light and aims to maintain the look and feel of the day. We don’t want you to look back at your photos and not recognise yourselves due to over editing. We use the Adobe Suite to correct and adjust colours and remove any unfortunate blemishes that might pop up in the closer photos. Our main editing programs are Lightroom and Photoshop.

ONCE WE HAVE SEEN THE PHOTOS, CAN WE REQUEST SPECIFIC EDITING TO BE DONE?

Sure as long as it’s within reason.

CAN YOU PRINT ANY OF OUR PHOTOS?

I sure can, I’ve got beautiful fine art mounted and framed prints available.

IS THE COST OF PRINTING INCLUDED IN THE PACKAGE COST?

No, printing is charged separately to the package cost (unless stated in the package) and will be calculated after you have received your images and once you have placed your print order.

HOW DO WE ORDER PRINTS OF OUR IMAGES?

We generally take orders for prints over the phone so we can discuss exactly what you are after in regards to print, size and framing.

WHAT HAPPENS IF WE LOSE OUR DIGITAL COPIES OF PHOTOS? DO YOU KEEP A COPY?

We will keep your images on file for one year from your wedding date. We recommend that you back the images up to your computers or an external hard drive to ensure they remain safe.
